We hopped on the high speed train again, and 90 minutes later we were at the Roma Termini where Francesca, our guide for the day was waiting for us. As a former archeologist, Francesca delighted us with exquisite details and anecdotes. Her charming and vivacious spirit was contagious. She led us through the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s cathedral, among a sea of other visitors. She expertly wove us through the crowds of this much visited part of Rome. After a quick cafeteria lunch, we hopped in taxis to the Forum. Francesca was well equipped with pictures of what the Palatine Hill looked like in its former glory, then onto the Coliseum we went. With our ‘backstage’ passes, Francesca adroitly led us through the dungeons, and upper tiers. The views, history and anecdotes were captivating. A sunset group photo was taken. By 7:50 p.m. we were ready to hop back on the train to Florence. Happy hour in car #7: wine and stories were shared. Another great day together.
Thank you Francesca for a lovely day!
