Munich

After a delicious breakfast, we prepared for the arrival of our crew. Sitting in a cozy chair in the reception area, we welcomed our travelers as they arrived. Then Steve and I went to the central outdoor food market: a quaint array of food vendors, mixed in with little outdoor eating places. We headed for the Suppe Kuche, which literally translated means ”soup kitchen” but it was a little booth where they only sold soup by the bowl, for 5 euros or less. We selected a healthy portion of soup broth with homemade noodles and meat. Then we walked by a “bakerei” where a line of locals was way out in the street, so we figured: long line= good treats...Sure enough, we arrived at the window and saw raised donuts being made, rolled in sugar and served while still warm...so we each got one. We are definitely eating our way through Munich today! At 4:30 we headed to the Glockenspiel on Marienplatz to meet Tim, our guide, who took us to the major sites, and entertained us with anecdotes. We ended the day at a local restaurant where a vast array of sausage, sauerkraut, goulash, liver & onions was on every table, along with bottomless glasses of beer.

That’s Germany for you: soul food, friends and beer!
