Day 3: Dachau and free afternoon in Munich

After breakfast, we’ll head to Dachau concentration camp to revisit the past.  “Arbeit macht frei” says the front gate: “work will make you free”… After lunch we will return to Munich for a free afternoon.  Visit the opulent Residenz palace, the dazzling Deutsches Museum, the sprawling English Garden, or the state-of-the-art BMW museum… or you may join a tour to Mad King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle….So many choices!!!

You can also rent a bike for an easy ride and picnic along the Salzach River, try your hand at Doe-a-Deer by joining a Sound of Music bus tour, or take an excursion out to Berchtesgaden to see Hitler's infamous Eagle's Nest retreat.

Day 5: Travel to Prague and intro to the City Center

Travel to Prague and meet our guide at 5:00 p.m. for an introduction to Prague’s history. Walking tour of the heart of Prague. (sleep in Prague 4 nights.)

Day 6: Prague of Kings and Nobles

This morning we'll take public transportation, rub shoulders with the locals and cross the Vltava River and up the hill to the most impressive castle complex in continental Europe: Prague Castle. After our history lesson with our local guide, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the massive Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and St. Vitus Cathedral. Free time in the afternoon to meander through delightful hidden gardens back down to the Old Town.

Day 7: Jewish and Art Nouveau Prague

Today we'll take a walking tour through the Josefov neighborhood, once the site of Prague's Jewish Ghetto — and still one of the most evocative Jewish districts in all of Europe. For a thousand years one of the leading centers of Judaism, the neighborhood is peppered with thought-provoking museums, fascinating synagogues, and a dream-like cemetery. After free time for lunch, we'll check out the classy concert halls and salons of the city's Municipal House and cap off the day with an Art Nouveau walk connecting some of Prague's slinkiest facades, and an optional tour of a museum devoted to the local master of Art Nouveau: Alfons Mucha (whose stained glass you will have already marveled at inside St. Vitus Cathedral), your evening will be free for dinner on your own.

Day 8: Revolutionary Prague

We'll start our day by retracing the footsteps of Prague's celebrated Velvet Revolution, following the events of Nov. 17, 1989, through the modern city to Wenceslas Square, where thousands of Czechs held up and rattled their keys, telling their leaders: “it’s time to go home.”

The evening will be a great time to catch a classical concert in one of the local churches or experience the quirky and uniquely Czech Black Light Theater.

Day 9: Tour Over After Breakfast

Prague’s Airport and busy train stations can connect you to practically anywhere in Europe, and your return home. Whatever your plans, your guide will help you get on the right track.
